Amazon’s Zoox: Purpose-Built for the Future

When I worked at Amazon, there was always one subsidiary that fascinated me: Zoox. Unlike retrofitted Teslas or Waymos, Zoox designs its cars from scratch to be fully autonomous. No steering wheel. No driver. Just vehicles engineered for a new era of mobility.

Zoox just launched in Las Vegas, and the timing feels pivotal. Their vehicles are perfectly suited for airports, college campuses, city centers, and corporate parks — niches where they don’t need to compete directly with Tesla or Waymo to win. Instead, they can thrive alongside them.

From my time at Amazon, I can tell you this: Zoox will eventually be woven into the broader Amazon ecosystem. Just look at Whole Foods or Prime benefits. The flywheel effect is real, and Zoox is primed (pun intended) to become part of it.

The biggest play? Last-mile delivery automation. Amazon is obsessed with automating and delivering for customers, and Zoox could transform the final step of getting goods to your doorstep. Whether or not Zoox dominates the robo-taxi space, it could still be huge for Amazon — and for the future of mobility.
